Tygers Knock Off Rams After Slow Start

MANSFIELD, OH- The Mansfield Senior Tygers (1-0) hosted the Madison Rams (0-4) in the first leg of the Battle of Mansfield on Tuesday night. After a slow start, the Tygers would be able to pull away and win their first contest of the season. After Mansfield Senior took an early lead thanks to a couple of free throws, the Rams would get on the board after a long outlet pass found Isaac Brooks streaking down the court. He would take it to the basket for a quick two to keep Maddison in the game. One point separated the teams after one-quarter of play. The Tygers would extend their lead in the early stages of the second quarter. Shad Creamer was able to make some space and drain a long jump shot that would put the Mansfield senior ahead 11-8 with just over seven minutes remaining until halftime. He would finish 7-14 from the floor on the night and 2-8 from downtown.However, the Rams weren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. Jayden Jeffries would get a layup and follow it up going coast-to-coast a few plays later. Jarrett Madusic would help the Rams go into halftime with a lead by making a mid-range jumper of his own.The turnover bug would eventually rear its head for Maddison. The Tygers would take advantage of 20 Ram miscues scoring 18 points off turnovers. That coupled with shooting .370 from the floor would ultimately spell defeat for Maddison. Isaac Brooks would lead the way for the Rams with 12 points to go with 4 rebounds and 2 assists.Shad Creamer would lead the game with 19 points along with 4 rebounds for the Tygers. Maddison is scheduled to resume their season on January 5th at Wooster while Mansfield Senior is scheduled to visit Shelby on Saturday.
