Tyger Boys Track Team Preps For D-1 Districts At Toledo St. Francis High School

MEHOCK FIELD, MANSFIELD Thye Mansfield Tyger Boys Track team is prepping for the division I tournament coming up on Wednesday with will get underway at 4 pm at Toledo St.Francis High School. Head coach Tyree Shine says if you think about it the state track meet begins this week.”People know we are in the district tournament you are in the state also. The state tournament starts in the district it ends at the state meet. We are going to enter our strengths all the events we think we can get to the regionals in and maybe get a chance of getting someone to the state in those events. Our strength right now is our sprint relays, field events our field events, high jump, long jump and we got a good discus thrower and shot putters.”OCC high jump champ Maurice Ware says it’s all about steps and technique. “I try to have my steps at ten I usually do not go over or under ten because ten just feels corect to me and the coach is really big on having a starting spot and having our marks and getting in a lot of warm up jumps in before we even start then we work on a lot of stretches before our jump. For sophomore, Malachi Johnson who is a member of the Tyger sprint relays it’s about making sure the stick does not slow down whether he runs first leg or third. “I like third, but coach puts me at the first leg a lot because he says I’m better at it. We are just going to work on handoffs and maybe do a few 150’s today and work on our sprints today so we won’t be tired and that is about it.”
