Madison Softball Team Preps For Lima Shawnee In Division II Regional semifinal

MADISON TOWNSHIP, The Madison Softball team will take on Lima Shawnee in Tiffin on Wednesday at 2 pm in the Division II girl’s regional semifinal. Madison came into the district tournament at 14-14, but is now district champions. For head coach Tim Niswander he says it was a matter of confidence and experience knowing they could get the job done. They are confident they come to practice every day and I’m a big believer in repetition and doing the same thing over and over again to get better its an attitude. Some of our kids don’t handle adversity as well as they could and a lot that is the product of the fact that we are starting three sophomores that have never played Varsity before and starting freshman that have never played varsity before. Our junior class was part-time starters here and there and our senior class was all of one so we had one full-time varsity starter coming back this year so the kids did not get a chance to learn from last years class which was very senior-heavy and very talented and I think that was something that they were all looking forward to and are disappointed that that did not happen and it was a missed opportunity for all of them and we did not get that learning experience.” The two teams that Madison beat in the district’s Ontario and Clear Fork had beaten the Rams during the regular season. Shortstop Hope Barret it was going in with the right mindset. “Going in with the right mindset thinking about softball and not other things and thinking about what we needed to do. We knew we could beat them during the time we lost to them it was hard we knew what we needed to do.”On 19-8, Lima Shawnee Niswander says, “Really good defensively went up and watched them on Saturday their pitcher is their best player and hitter they are very athletic they remind me a lot of Clear Fork. “It’s no different than any other time it’s the regionals you are in the sweet 16. I can say this, you have to show up and play if you don’t bring your “A” game you will get beat, and if you do you have a chance and that will be the case for as long as we play the rest of the year.”For their part, Lima Shawnee comes in as co-champs of the Western Buckeye League with Lima Bath. The Shawnee Indians have an overall record of 19-8. The winner on Wednesday will move on to the regional final against the winner of the second Wednesday which has Keystone taking on Wauseon. The regional final is Saturday at noon.
