SHELBY, OH – After winning their first district title in over 50 years in 2019, No. 1 seeded Colonel Crawford Eagles eye another one after defeating 8th seeded Genoa Comets 4-2 in a Division III District Semi-Final on Thursday afternoon.Both teams would strand runners in the first inning as the defenses would make timely outs to keep the ball game scoreless after one inning of play. In the second inning, Genoa would leave another runner stranded after a throwing error by the Eagles as Colonel Crawford’s pitcher Drayton Burkhart would settle down and keep the comets from scoring. In the bottom half of the inning, Colonel Crawford would struggle to get things going at the plate as Genoa’s Jacob Emerson strikes out five Eagles in the first two innings of play. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the game would swing in the Eagle’s favor as Carson Feichtner sends one deep scoring Micah Thomas and Cade Hamilton for a 2-0 Colonel Crawford lead. After four innings of play, it would be Colonel Crawford with a 2-0 advantage. Carson Feichtner would come up big again for Colonel Crawford with a double scoring Cade Hamilton before Feichtner is brought home by Drayton Burkhart for a 4-0 Eagle lead after five innings of play. Genoa would not go away quietly by scoring a pair of runs off a throwing error to first base by the Colonel Crawford catcher. Though the Comets would leave two more runners on as they cut the Colonel Crawford advantage to 4-2 after six innings of play from Shelby High School. Colonel Crawford would hold on and defeat the 8th seeded Comets (12-16) 4-2 to advance to a second straight District Final after not having a season a year ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Colonel Crawford (25-2) advances to the Division III Shelby District Championship Game against No. 2 seeded Milan Edison on Saturday afternoon at 12 pm.
