Colonel Crawford Boys Basketball Team Faces Willard (Again) In Division 3 District Semifianl

NORTH ROBINSON, OH- At 23-0, the Colonel Crawford Boys Basketball team will try to take another step further in Tournament play on Thursday when they travel to Shelby to take on the Willard Flashes. With their win over Van Buren last Friday the Eagles claimed their tenth straight sectional championship. “You know I just think there is a lot of credit to guys that have played over the last decade in our program and then this team this year. To get ten straight is a great accomplishment for our program there a lot of people were part of that ten years ago up to today so it’s consistency and tradition and what our guys expect from this program night in and night out to earn sectional championships. “It means a lot even when I was a ball boy,” said senior Brock Ritzhaupt. So it’s cool to put on a jersey and win them, but we a not settling for a sectional championship we want to go as far as we can. It’s cool but it’s not our end goal. The D-3 district semifinal will be played at Shelby High on Thursday night at 5:30 when the Eagles will have a rematch with the team they beat a year ago (59-55) in the Willard Flashes who finished the season at 18-5 and were winners of the SBC’s Bay Division. Sheldon says the Flashes have several options when it comes to scoring the basketball. “They got multiple options. They do a great job of playing their roles and they have three double-figure scorers in Pinkston, Paxton, and Adleman, but they got other guys around them that do a great job too so you just gotta play good team defense that is what it is going to come down to at that end of the floor we gotta be aggressive and smart on offense as well every possession is vital.” A season ago the Flashes were the favorite. This year with Crawford at 23-0 may be considered the favorite. So do roles feel like they are reversed? Ritzhaupt says “Yeah I guess a little bit you know we were two in the state they were seven in the state last year I hope we have the same result I hope the big dog wins it’s going to be a good game, but we have to treat this game like any other game. It’s awesome to be a part of it I never would have really expected two run the table to this point, but we’ll take every game one at a time and treat every game the same and it’s worked out so far.” WMFD will air the game live on Thursday evening with the tip at 5:30 pm.
