Madison football coach Matt Godsil submitted his resignation pending board approval at Wednesday's meeting. Coach Godsil began coaching at Madison as an assistant in 1983 and was part of some of the best Madison football teams in school history, teams that won four straight Ohio Heartland Conference crowns in 1989, 1990, 1991 & 1992. The Rams won the conference again in 1996 and 1997. Madison advanced to the OHSAA playoffs in 1990 and again in 1992. Godsil took over as head coach in 2000 and led the Rams to an OCC conference co-championship in 2005 (8-4). The Rams also advanced to the post season that year winning the school's first ever playoff game over Sylvania Southview in the regional quarter finals before falling to the eventual state champ that season in Division II Toledo Central Catholic. Over the last nine seasons the Rams were 41-51. As an assistant and head coach Matt was well respected in the coaching community. Godsil will continue to teach art at Madison High School. Two of Godsil's former players man the offensive line at Liberty University (9-2), his son Mike(6-2, 290) and Bryan Mosier(6-2, 300). Accoding to Athletic Director Jim Van Tiburg a search for a new coach begins immediately.
