The Ontario Planning Commission Wednesday night discussed proposed admendments to the zoning code.

City zoning inspector Dallas Strickler said the commission is recommending that the fee be doubled for businesses and individuals who erect a sign without the required permit. Strickler said the permit allows the zoning inspector to ensure the sign is structurally sound and meets code requirements.

Strickler said the recommendation will be submitted to city council for review.

In other business, the commission held two public hearings for variance requests. The first hearing was with Sam's Club whose proposing a lot split in the store's parking area. The commission granted the variance.

The second hearing was with Habitat for Humanity. The agency wants to build a home on a parcel of propety it owns off of Chambers Road. Strickler said the request was denied because the house plan did not meet front yard setback rquiements.  He said the setback requirement in the area is 35 feet and the house plan had a 25 feet setback.

The commission suggested that Habitat for Humanity come back to the commission with a revised plan for further review.
